I am Trevor Morrice
I love competition; my entire life has been based on what I can do to be the best I can be at whatever I do. However earlier in my career, I was a ‘know it all’, stubborn, wunderkind. I did as little as I could to get by. When my goals were never met year after year, I retired from sport in 2010. I took a step back to look at the sport from another view, as a coach. From watching good athletes I found what it means and what it takes to be an athlete. Coming out of retirement was a decision that weighed heavily on the pros column all expect for one little thing, my weight.

The Weight Issue
The reality of my sport is that weight does not fly. My whole career I struggled losing weight, never seeming to be able to stick to a diet. Being 187cm (6'2) my ski jumping weight should be 70kg (155lbs). I always floated from 5-8kg over my optimum weight, and the stress of being constantly reminded about it drove me to an early retirement. As soon I was done I started living the teen life, I started lifting weights, drinking and eating as much as I wanted. I ballooned! 3 months after my retirement I weighed 90 kg, at my heaviest I weighed 100kg.

Why I Retired from Retirement
All sports require technical talent, and high level commitment. I was born with a talent for ski jumping, but I didn’t realise truly what it means to commit to high performance sport. When I left the sport I was happy with what I did. After coaching for a couple years I knew I had not done everything and became embarrassed to call myself a former athlete. I now know I have what it takes and have totally committed to training and reaching my goals, 2015 World Championships, and Ski Flying.

Story and Background
Growing up I played hockey and soccer, when I turned 8 I tried ski jumping. After about 2 years the ski jumping coaches said I had to quit hockey or leave jumping. Being Canadian, this means leaving a sport you grow up with, to a sport you have never seen on TV (still haven’t!). The passion I had for jumping along with my talent carried me to the Olympics. The stress and pressures placed on me as a young athlete mentally broke me down and I had to retire at 18 (very early). I took almost a year away from the sport, didn’t even think about it once. In the winter of 2011 an opportunity to coach a recruitment camp came up. I coached for 3 summers and 3 winters, every level, new recruit’s to the National team. The past year I have come to terms with my Jumping career and realised I have some unfinished business.

Why I Need You!
All travel is funded 100% from my pocket. Europe is the home for ski jumping. This makes it very hard and expensive to compete at a high level. I have two trips to Europe planned before the Olympics, maybe more depending on my results. Along with training trips to Utah and whistler, my highest cost are coming from travel and housing. Suits, boots, helmet, skis, and all basic living expenses add up as well.

Successes
As a very young jumper I had great success, qualifying for Torino Olympics in 2006 at 14 years old. I also got Canada’s first male international podium in 15 years at FIS Cup in 2007. I have been a member of two Olympics Teams, in Vancouver and in Sochi. As a coach I successes as well, I had the chance to flag(the clear to jump signal) a girl on her first jump ever (k18) and 2 years later her first jump ever on the Olympic large hill (k120). Also being named Assistant National Coach in 2013 for a year was a great honor and privilege.

  1. This could work out well since localization isn’t simple and something of a gamble. I’d definitely back stuff if I new I could get it.
